The Gate River Run, located here in Jacksonville, Florida, is the largest 15K race in the United States. It’s a pretty big deal around here for runners and non-runners alike.
I ran the Gate River Run in 2012 – it was the first race I ever ran. Interestingly enough, I haven’t run it since, despite its popularity in the local running community. In 2013, my body was too wrecked from running my first marathon just a few weeks earlier. In 2014, I was out of town (can’t remember where). In 2015, it coincided with my trip to Israel for the Jerusalem Marathon. And in 2016 – well, by 2016 I wasn’t running anything.
But I digress. The Gate River Run is happening on Saturday, March 11, 2017 and is sure to be awesomely fun. Last year over 24,000 people participated in the event, which includes the 15K, The Florida Times-Union 5K for Charity, the Junior River Run, and the Brooks Rehabilitation Challenge Mile.
Online registration is closing soon, so don’t delay! You can register for all of the events HERE.
The Gate River Run is organized by 1st Place Sports and has loads of great sponsors, including Tropical Smoothie Cafe. This month they’re featuring the Cha Cha Sriracha Flatbread: grilled chicken, mozzarella, shredded carrots, house-made roasted pineapple salsa, cilantro, scallions, and caramelized pineapple Sriracha sauce on a toasted flatbread. Looks delicious, doesn’t it?
Good luck to everyone running the Gate River Run this weekend! Tag me in your social media posts (@mommyrunsit) so I can see your pics!
