In case you didn’t know it, I’m pretty small – probably about the size of your average 12 year old. Most of the time I don’t mind being petite (except when it comes to reaching things from high shelves – that part stinks). And one of the things I’ve always liked best about being small is the hand-me-downs. A substantial chunk of my wardrobe was passed down to me from someone else. And even better, since I’ve stayed pretty much the same size for decades, I keep my clothes (both secondhand and new) for years.
I’ve passed my petite genes down to Amelia, my 9 year old. Talk about hand-me-downs. She gets them not only from her big sister, but from her big sister’s friends, her friends, and her friends’ big sisters.
That’s a lot of clothes.
And like me, Amelia very rarely outgrows things. As long as she manages to avoid major stains, rips, or holes, her clothes seem to last forever. She’s starting 4th grade this year, and she still has dresses that she wore in first grade. And as much as she loves getting new things, she loves her familiar, well-worn favorites too. As you can imagine, with her closet already overflowing with hand-me-downs, we usually don’t make a big deal out of back-to-school clothes shopping. So when Amelia had the chance to get some brand new school clothes from Kohl’s, she was thrilled! And I was excited for her. Because there’s something really fun about choosing your own clothes straight from the store racks instead of the back of your big sister’s closet.
I’ve loved Carter’s since my girls were babies – they wore those sweet little onesies everywhere! And even now, many of Amelia’s favorite comfy dresses are Carter’s. Because lucky for us, Carter’s makes clothes for big kids too – all the way up to size 8. Which means that unless Amelia has a major growth spurt this year, she’ll probably be able to wear these new clothes (all size 6-7) for the whole school year, and maybe even the one after that.
I’ve always let the girls pick out their own clothes – and let’s just say that they have a unique flair for fashion. (There was that one phase when Sophia wore a ladybug costume everywhere she went. And Amelia has really been into wearing her pajamas in public this summer – who knows why.) I wasn’t quite sure how it would turn out when I set Amelia loose on Kohls.com, but I think she made some pretty cute choices.
Carter’s Playwear will be 40% – 50% at Kohl’s from 8/4 – 8/20, so if you want to pick up any of Amelia’s choices for your kiddos, make sure to check out the sale in stores and/or online. You can also use the BTS10 code to get $10 off $50 spent on the back to school categories (which includes Carter’s clothing).
Wishing you all a great school year,
