Last week I told you about the Walgreens Way To Well Tour – a community outreach program that provides free preventative and early detection health services to communities across the country. And earlier this week, I got the chance to visit the tour bus when it stopped by my hometown.
Way To Well Tour Bus
As promised, I participated in all of the available health screenings. And guess what – I have the “real body age” (one of the tests) of a spry 38 year old. Go me.
I was also screened for total cholesterol, glucose, blood pressure, body mass index, body composition, skeletal muscle, resting metabolism, visceral fat, real body age, and body weight. The health screeners took my blood pressure, did a finger prick to collect a sample of my blood, and measured me on a body composition scale/monitor. The whole thing took less than 20 minutes and was nearly painless (except for the finger prick – because, needle.)
Just about all of my measurements were in the normal range. My body fat was 30.1%, which is a good bit higher than I expected (based on the calculations of my personal body fat scale) but still in the normal range for a woman of my age. My visceral fat (“belly fat”), was 7%, which also falls into the normal range.
Two measurements did fall outside of the normal range:
1) My cholesterol was 204 (normal = <200), but as I discussed with the health screener, this has been my exact cholesterol level for probably 10+ years. In the past, I’ve been told that this is because my “good” cholesterol is high. There’s a good chance that this is still the case, but I need to have it checked out by my doctor just to be sure.
2) My glucose (blood sugar) was 90, which put me in the normal range for someone who is fasting – which I wasn’t. Still, this wasn’t cause for concern – it just indicated that I needed to eat something.
If you’re interested in learning more about the tour and if/when it’ll be coming to your town, you can visit waytowelltour.com for more info. (You must be 18 or older to participate.)
Balance® Rewards for Healthy Choices
At the tour, I also picked up some information about the Walgreens Balance Rewards for healthy choices program, which rewards members for making healthy choices like walking, running, weight management, and testing your blood pressure and blood glucose.* It’s easy – you earn points for the healthy activities you do. The more points you earn, the greater the reward. And more reward points means more savings. For example, if you earn 5,000 reward points, you redeem them for $5 to put toward your Walgreens purchase. Earn 10,000 points? Redeem them for $10 off your next purchase. And so on.
To make things even easier, you can use fitness devices (like a FitBit) and other digital applications to help track your personal health and fitness goals. You can even sync your device to auto-log your healthy activities into your Balance Rewards account. The folks at the Way To Well Tour can help you do this, or you can do it on your own by going to www.Walgreens.com/
* Restrictions apply. Limit 20 points per mile, 1000 points per month. Limit 20 points per daily weigh-in logged. Limit 20 points per blood glucose test, two logs per day. Limit 20 points per blood pressure test, one log per day. One-time award, 250 points each, when you pledge to quit and set a quit date online. Nicotine Replacement Therapy usage, limit 20 points per log, one log per day. Information provided to Walgreens online is covered by the terms of our Online Privacy and Security Policy and the terms and conditions of Balance Rewards. Personally identifiable information is not covered under HIPAA or the Walgreens Notice of Privacy Practices. For full program terms and conditions, visit Walgreens.com/

Far too long ago. Probably 1 1/2 years go was my last wellness check up of going to the doctor, but that didn’t even include those kind of tests or anything. Last well check like you did was probably 3-4 when they did something similar at my work at the time.

I’m excited about the giveaway because my doctor just provided me with insight about this product. I constantly go through wellness checkups because I have been diagnosed with blood clots (found in my liver and recently in my brain) and RLS (restless limb syndrome). I believe the Fitbit Flex will help me monitor my diet, exercise, and sleep patterns more accurately. Right now I’m using MyFitnessPal and the Fitbit Flex will accommodate that app. Good luck everyone!!!!
Farrah Claridy says
I didn’t see any Gainesville, FL Walgreens on the Way to Well tour. Maybe we will make the list next time.

I just had a wellness checkup last week for our wellness program at work. One of the requirements this year was to visit our primary doctor for a wellness checkup. It was actually really easy…he checked my bloodwork results from a draw earlier this year and told me I could stand to lose a little weight.

About two months ago.
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine says
I hadn’t had a physical in years, but then I needed one to be up-to-date for college so I had to get one in the summer!
TrippyCusp93 says
It’s been about a year since I’ve had my last check up, but other than regular doctor visits, I focus on my health quite a bit. I’ve lost 65lbs since last July through diet and exercise and I quit smoking cold turkey 3 weeks ago. I count my calories and eat lots of protein, plus fruits and veggies. Since changing my diet, my stomach has become extremely sensitive to unhealthy foods, so it’s kind of like I have no choice anymore but to eat right. It’s both a blessing and a curse lol I’ll be heading back to a doctor soon for another checkup!
sharon says
Wow, that’s great! Don’t know if you saw this on the website, but you can earn Balance Rewards points for quitting smoking. Nice to earn points for something you’re doing anyway. https://www.walgreens.com/pharmacy/quit_smoking_tobacco.jsp
