Hey, parents – we’re in the home stretch! Only a couple more weeks left until summer break. I think it’s safe to say that this remote learning thing has given most of us a whole new appreciation for teachers. Thank you to all teachers (especially the angels who enjoy educating my own kids for 7 hours a day) from the bottom of my heart.
I want to give you a few important updates from Florida Prepaid, but first I have some educational resources to share. I hope you’ll find them helpful during these last few days of school (and beyond).
Florida Prepaid Teams Up With Scholastic
As I mentioned in my last post, my kids are in middle school. Remote learning has by no means been easy for us, but it does help that my kids are relatively independent. I make sure they’re keeping up with their work, assist with technical issues, and help with homework and projects as needed. Their teachers do the heavy lifting.
But from what I’ve seen in various corners of the internet, virtual learning has proven to be more challenging for many parents of younger students (not to mention their teachers). How do teachers provide interactive instruction when they can’t really interact with their students? How do you assign school work to a child who has not yet learned how to read? And how do parents bridge the gap between at-home learning and the limitations of our remote learning systems?
This is an unprecedented and challenging time for families, and to some extent I think we’re all figuring it out as we go. So how do we keep our little ones on track and focused on their future? For the past few months, Scholastic has been leading the way, creating at-home learning resources that make it fun and easy to keep your kids engaged and learning, even in these circumstances. And now, Florida Prepaid just announced that they’re teaming up with Scholastic to provide families with special math and social studies-focused at-home learning materials. These materials are intended for grades PreK–2 and are designed to encourage critical thinking about jobs, money, and the future. The activities look fun and include things like crafting, coloring, and letter writing. (Can we do these instead of algebra, please?)

1. Open Enrollment for prepaid plans has been extended until May 31, 2020. As part of its continuing commitment to help families as they navigate the challenges related to COVID-19, the Board has extended the Open Enrollment period for an extra four weeks.
2. Florida Prepaid is also deferring Prepaid Plan payment due dates until July 2020 to provide families with additional flexibility. All payments for April, May, and June have been deferred and will resume on July 20, 2020. This includes both new current and new customers. (Current customers: Depending on how you currently make payments, you made need to take action. Click to learn more.)
3. If you enroll in a new Prepaid Plan during the current Open Enrollment period, your $50 application fee will be waived. Use promo code RUNSIT20 when you enroll.
Remember: Florida Prepaid College Plan prices for the 2020 Open Enrollment period are the lowest they’ve been in five years! Plans start at start at $44/month for newborns. Things are tough right now, but someday the world will turn right-side up again. And when it does, this type of financial flexibility will help us get back on our feet again.
Open Enrollment continues through May 31., 2020 You can learn more by visiting myfloridaprepaid.com, and you can use promo code RUNSIT20 to have your $50 enrollment fee waived.
Just think: if we can get through being our kids’ pseudo teachers WHILE being cooped up at home with them AND doing our regular jobs, we can get through ANYTHING! (Only joking – sort of.)
Stay safe and healthy, friends.
I'd love to hear your thoughts...
