I’m no expert, but I can pretty confidently say that parenting a child of any age can be hard, weird, gut-wrenching, and totally fun. Somehow your kid can bring you to your knees and make your heart soar in the same 30 seconds. Just when you think it couldn’t possibly get any harder, it does. And just when you think you couldn’t possibly love them more, you do.
My daughters are 6 and 9, and believe me, the challenges are plentiful. There’s the nightly homework battle, the pre-teen mood swings, the unwillingness to eat anything besides chicken nuggets and corn dogs.
But there are a lot of fun things about this stage too. They’re starting to develop genuine interests and hobbies, some of which we have in common. We like some of the same movies, music, and books. They’re old enough to assert their independence, but they’re young enough to still want me to kiss their boo-boos and hold their hands in the mall.
They’re also old enough to spend several hours in a theme park without a meltdown (finally!) – and they’re young enough to think it’s the funnest thing ever to wear matching dresses to said theme park. Which is how we came to look like this last weekend in Universal Studios Orlando:
We received these gorgeous dresses as a gift from Nuu-Muu, and Universal Studios seemed like a fun place to try them out. A little about Nuu-Muu dresses: They’re technically exercise dresses, but they make great swimsuit cover-ups and regular everyday dresses too. They’re really versatile – designed for fitness (made with breathable, moisture-wicking, and quick-dry material), but they’re also totally pretty and feminine. There’s nothing built-in – no bra or under-short, so you wear your own sports bra or bathing suit or whatever underneath. You can also wear them over something – leggings, maybe even jeans. Like I said – versatile.
They have some really gorgeous patterns, and as you can see, Nuu-Muu has dresses for adults and kids. If you want to do the matchy-matchy thing (I was SO doing matchy-matchy – thank goodness my kids were game), you have 3 designs to choose from: Skye, Chai, and Fluerty.
So as I was saying, all 3 of us wore our Nuu-Muu dresses to Universal Studios last Saturday. The girls wore them over bathing suits, and I just wore mine as a regular sundress. (I did wear my running shoes though, since I was trying to break them in.)
I normally wouldn’t wear a dress to a theme park, but I was very comfortable in my Nuu-Muu. I was especially grateful for the moisture-wicking/quick-dry fabric since it was in 80’s on Saturday. The girls were comfortable all day and didn’t complain at all (at least not about the dresses). And we got lots of attention in our matching dresses, which was fun. Several people stopped to compliment us on them. And during the parade, one of the musicians actually called out to us from his float that he wanted a matching dress too. It was cute.
We returned to Universal on Sunday, and the girls liked their dresses so much that they wore them again. I chose to wear clean clothes, but hey, that’s just me. And if you can’t wear dirty clothes sometimes, what’s the point of being 6?
Obviously, we love the dresses. I mean, what’s not to love? And I’m SO excited to spread the love to one of you!
