Four days until surgery. Whoa.
For months I’ve been wishing it would hurry up and get here. Now that it’s almost here – not so much.
I’m not second guessing or backing out or anything. I’m just starting to get seriously anxious. And I’m the type of person who gets anxious crossing the street, so the next 72 hours should be…interesting. (Be kind to my husband this week, okay?)
I had my pre-op exam last week. It was called a PACE appointment, which stands for Pre-Anesthesia Care Exam or something like that.
I met with a nurse who took a very thorough medical history, checked my vitals, and gave me pre-operation instructions. Nothing too out of the ordinary:
- no NSAIDs (ibuprofen, aspirin, Alleve) one week prior to surgery. Tylenol is okay though.
- no vitamins or supplements one week prior to surgery.
- no food, drink, gum, or mints after midnight the day prior to surgery. I can take my regular medication the morning of my surgery with a small amount of water.
- no deodorant, lotion, or contact lenses the day of my surgery.
Pretty standard stuff, I think. The one unusual thing was the instructions for disinfecting my body the night before surgery. I have to shower with antibacterial soap, wait 2 hours until my skin is completely cool & dry, and then wipe my entire body down with special wipes that were given to me. And I need to sleep on freshly laundered sheets.
I have a really busy week ahead, so hopefully that’ll help keep my mind off of scary things. Lots of end-of-the-school-year stuff, plus packing the kids up for a visit with my parents – that’s where they’ll be during the first week or so after my surgery.
I also have to pack my bag for the hospital – I’ll be staying two nights (hopefully no more). I need comfortable shoes & clothes, toiletries, books, crossword puzzles, phone charger…what else?
Oh, and speaking of taking my mind off things, I had an amazing time last night with one of my besties and a whole group of super fun girls.
We saw Salt-n-Pepa, Rob Base, Tone Loc, Kid-n-Play, Color Me Badd, and Coolio at the St. Augustine Amphitheater. We drank margaritas and shook our booties like it was 1992. I needed that! Although my back disagrees a bit this morning. But it was so worth it.
Now let’s just hope that I will be back up and shaking my booty again SOON!
I'd love to hear your thoughts...
