My 9 year old is passionate about science and technology. Last year, when she was in 2nd grade, my husband bought her a small Arduino microcontroller board. Now, in the interest of full disclosure, I should tell you that my knowledge of computer science, programming, and technology is limited to what I learned in computer camp (yes, I went to computer camp) in 1984. But my husband is a science and technology smarty pants – and so is our daughter. For her 2nd grade science project, she programmed her Arduino (her mini-robot) to play music.
Needless to say, she was ecstatic when she found out that she was going to have a chance to review VERVE 2:
VERVE 2 is a groundbreaking, easy-to-use interactive tech toy that allows kids of all ages to create fun projects and experiences by allowing them to control their computer and the Internet with everyday objects. For example, with VERVE 2, you can plug a sensor into any object (i.e. an apple) and make it a musical instrument – this gives a whole new meaning to “playing on your Apple!” Or, how about playing Angry Birds with an actual slingshot?!
The uses of Verve2 are only limited by the imagination. Anyone can bring their ideas to life without the need for programming or electronics knowledge. VERVE 2 ships with eight different sensors that can be used to create thousands of different experiences. Sensors include: light, motion, sound, magnet, force, temperature, touch and pushbutton. If you can think it, you can build it… and, often in under five minutes. It’s the Erector Set for the 21st Century!
The VERVE 2 Starter Kit works right out of the box and comes with:
- VERVE hub
- VERVE Sensors: pushbutton, light, turn, touch with 2 alligator clips, motion, magnet, temperature, and sound
- 8 connection cables
- Mini-USB cable
- 4 extension cables
- Flash drive with software, users guide, and 2 starter game apps
- Quickstart guide
We’ve only just begun to discover what VERVE 2 can do – but my daughter is already in science heaven!
The VERVE 2 is available online for $119 – but on Monday, December 1 (Cyber Monday), shoppers can go to the VERVE 2 store at http://vervestore.myshopify.
