Big thanks to StrideBox for gifting me the products that I will be using in today’s giveaway! The giveaway itself is not sponsored by StrideBox.
In the chaos of this past summer (and my forgetfulness in general), I totally overlooked an important day in my life – this blog’s Five Year Anniversary! I published my very first post on Mommy Runs It on July 30, 2013. It was 170 words long:
The first thing you need to know about me is that I screw up. A lot. I forget to pay bills. I’m always 20 minutes late. I never fill my gas tank until the orange light comes on. I’ve been known to use the occasional four-letter word. I (gasp!) yell at my kids. But I’m also pretty fun. I’m a great mom. I love to make people laugh with stories about my weird life. I make an excellent pumpkin bread. Oh, hey, and did I mention that I ran a marathon?
See, I’m a real mom, and I’m probably a lot like you. Sure, some days I’m the smiling, poised woman you see in my holiday greeting cards. Other days I’m the mom with the messy hair and the screaming kids who makes you cringe in the grocery store. Most days I’m somewhere in between. Life isn’t perfect, and neither am I. And I’m excited to share a little piece of my perfectly imperfect life with you.
I have to tell you, I think I nailed it with that first post. Because 5 years later, every single word is still true. I still forget to pay bills and wait for the “low fuel” light to fill my gas tank. My pumpkin bread still rocks. And the kids and are I still known to have the occasional cringey grocery store meltdown.
If you haven’t been reading here very long, you may not know that I ran a marathon in 2013. And a second one in 2014. In fact, this blog began as a way for me to chronicle my life as a marathon running mom (Mommy Runs It, get it?). Of course, that all changed with my 2015 diagnosis of spondylolisthesis, which resulted in my 2016 spinal fusion. And as my health situation changed, so did the central themes of this blog.
It’s fun to look back and see that despite the obvious changes in my life, a whole lot has stayed the same. I think I’ve remained pretty true to myself, and I’m quite proud of that.

But I digress. The real purpose of this post is to celebrate this blog’s 5 year anniversary, and to thank you for traveling this bumpy road with me.
As my way of saying thank you for 5 great years, I’m giving away 5 brand new boxes of fitness goodies from StrideBox! I love running. Something about it makes you feel free. I especially live running/hiking on the beautiful trails here, in Maine. So i can not go long without my KEEN versago shoes. They feel like nothings on your feet, but protect the bottoms of your feet against the roughest terrains maine has to offer. Thanks for such a cool contest.
